Whether you’re expecting a baby, a foster child or an adoptive child, it is just so easy to overspend getting ready for the arrival. I think this is doubly true if you are expecting a girl.
Boys are easy. But for girls, it seems everything has to be coordinated down to a “t.” From the wallpaper to the clothing to the baby girl bedding, you can sometimes feel like you’re letting your future daughter down if you don’t design everything she touches so she’s up to the minute in fashion.
But it’s fun, I admit. Even for a boy, it’s fun! And the stores sure do cater to this strong nesting drive in mothers. When my first sons were born, we just used an old cloth diaper as a burp cloth. Now, you have to buy cloth baby diapers with designs all over them—well, I think they’re just meant to be towels, not diapers. But I eventually found plain white ones just for the sake of my being able to bleach them!
I guess if babies weren’t so cute and it wasn’t so darned fun to get ready for them, we just wouldn’t have them at all. Like they say, God made babies adorable so we wouldn’t throw them out the window.
