Another of the things I really like about freelancing is the ability to maintain a variety in the types of things I write and what I write about.
For instance, I write a variety of types of things, from newsletter articles for one client, to online marketing materials and PR materials such as press releases for other clients. All of these various types of writing are different — as a writer, you have to know what tone is appropriate for a journalistic article, which is of course very different from what’s appropriate in a blog post.
I also cover a wide range of topics — anything from Florida real estate, for a client who is an agent, to reseller hosting, for a client who has a web hosting company. I enjoy all the different topics — I learn a lot, for one thing, researching various topics for clients. I also enjoy it that I’m not always writing about the same basic thing, as I was in my technical writing job years ago.
Honestly, I think the variety is one of the things most responsible for me keeping my passion for my work. It’s hard to get tired of what you do when it’s different all the time, after all! I’ve worked in jobs that are the same day after day, and those get so old so quickly. As a freelance writer, though, I can make sure that there is always enough variety to keep me interested.
Really, if you ask me I’m very lucky to have the job I’ve got. I love working for myself, and I especially love it that I get paid to do something I truly enjoy!
